The Philly Vintage Flea – From A Pop Up To Biggest in Town

The Philly Vintage Market has grown from a small pop up to a Philly staple. Let’s hear from the founder Dakota Cardosanto and some regular vendors what makes the event special.

“The Philly Vintage Flea started back in 2020 as just a fun idea – a one-off, bigger-than-usual pop-up with a handful of local vintage selling and collecting friends. No big plans, no business model, just a love for good clothes and good energy. But like most fun things… we couldn’t stop at one.

Now the flea has grown into a massive, high-energy vintage clothing market featuring over 100 sellers from across the region, each bringing store-sized selections of rare, high-quality pieces spanning every era, style, and genre, all under one roof for one unforgettable day. It’s special for a lot of reasons.

First off, the Philly vintage community is stacked – some of the best sellers and collectors on the planet.

Second, every vendor is handpicked from hundreds of applicants, so only the best of the best make it in. And third, it’s strictly vintage clothing – no filler, no random crafts – just pure vintage for the people who actually care about it.

Honestly, it’s the little things that end up being big when you organize events like this. For example, are the Eagles or another Philly team playing that day? Are there other events pulling the same crowd? And of course, figuring out if we’ve pushed promotion as hard as we possibly can with the resources we’ve got.

The biggest highlights are always the shows where vendors or attendees come up and say they had an amazing time. People are quick to let you know when something’s off, so when we hear that genuine, positive feedback – it hits different. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps us doing it.

It’s hard to say if we’d do anything differently looking back – but yeah, there’ve definitely been plenty of small mistakes along the way. The difference is, we’ve made a point to learn from every single one and tighten things up each time we do it again.

My advice for anyone looking to start a vintage market now is simple – take delivery seriously. The vendors who apply and pay to be there are trusting you to make it worth it. They’ll promote, sure, but it’s on you to push just as hard. You can’t guarantee everyone will have their best day ever, but you should absolutely do everything you can to make it feel like they could. Start small because a great small show naturally grows into a great big one. Nail the vibe, take care of your vendors and shoppers, and the rest builds itself.

We’ve got a lot on the horizon: more shows in new venues, the hunt for a Philly indoor venue that can handle a ton of vendors and still make sense cost-wise, and something really exciting we can’t spill just yet… but trust, it’s worth the wait.

We seriously appreciate the loyalty of our vendors and the Philly vintage community. None of this exists without you. It means everything to us.”

“What makes the Philly Vintage Flea so special is the sense of community. Philly has an amazing vintage community, and for years we’ve flown under the radar. The Philly flea started with a couple people selling vintage in a gym parking lot and now has evolved into a massive event with over 100 vendors and thousands of attendees. The organizers, Dakota and Justin, put a bunch of work into making sure each flea is better than the last. They do a great job at highlighting the vendors and showcasing the vast array of curations you can find at the flea. There truly is something there for everyone.

When I did my first flea I was still pretty new to vending and never did an event that size. I didn’t know what to expect. That event ended up being one of my best to date. I was also able to make connections with fellow vendors. Now when I do the flea I look forward to seeing familiar faces and making even more connections.

Everyone wants to see everyone win and have a successful day. Oftentimes the vintage space can feel competitive or oversaturated, but at the flea it’s nothing but love for everyone. I think what the flea is doing is putting Philly on the map as the place to find the best deals on the best vintage out there!”

“The Philly Vintage Flea is a fantastic local market that brings together vendors and vintage enthusiasts from all over the East Coast. It started off as a small event during Covid that quickly grew into something spectacular. Some of my favorite memories definitely have to be the early events Justin held at the gym. It became a great way to meet like minded vendors and customers & was a great escape after Covid.”

“The Philly Vintage Flea is one of my favorite events because it really shows how big something can grow. It started with just a few of us, maybe 10 at Dakota’s Gym. The next thing you know they are filling an expo center with 200+ of the best vintage vendors across the country.

It’s a place you walk in and you feel like you know everyone even if you don’t. My favorite is the people you’ll meet. From all walks of life. All under one roof connecting over vintage clothing. I have turned a simple transaction to a business relationship to now being able to call a lot of people friends now. That’s something you can’t buy.”

“I have met many of my followers at the Philly Vintage Flea that I was never able to meet in person. Simply cause they saw I shared the events flyer or promo, and people who have ordered from me in the past went cause they knew the event would be great. I’ve become close friends with 3 or 4 of those followers. That’s one of the best parts. Followers that support us, vintage sellers, can come to this event, and we can both finally put a face to the name. Social media these days helps us develop friendships, but we can’t always meet the people. Yet we feel we have known them forever. Then an event like Philly Vintage Flea comes along and helps us finally establish true friendship.“
