Pickwick NYC Street Styles
Want to know how vintage shoppers dress up in New York? Here are the best street style looks we spotted at the Pickwick Vintage show.
The beloved Pickwick Vintage show from California debuted at Grand Central Station in NYC on May 17th. The one-day event attracted a steady stream of vintage shoppers – the show was a celebration of both personal style and vintage fashion.
Pickwick Vintage is hosted monthly at ROW DTLA in Los Angeles and bi-monthly at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Hopefully, the show will be a regular feature in NYC, too!

“I’m wearing a Bonjour tee from ARCADE, reworked jeans from Mercy Vintage, belt from Tangerine Queen, and earrings and necklace from Porter Vintage. I live in San Francisco, so most of my favorite stores are based there: Porter Vintage, Tangerine Queen, Mercy Vintage, and Valencia Street Vintage. I met some fantastic shop owners at Pickwick and will buy from them online! Including Ally Bird Vintage and Kimono Dragon.
I bought lots of things at Pickwick! Amazing necklaces from Kimono Dragon, so many fantastic belts, skirts, jackets, everything from Porter Vintage, super fun teeshirts from Ally Bird, and some great tops from Subject Matter, among other things!
Why I love shopping vintage: supporting sustainability, finding unique pieces, and I love that there’s a human story behind each piece. It can make you feel connected to others you don’t know, and I like thinking about the journey the pieces have gone through and what they’ve seen.”

“I am wearing a vintage thrifted dress, Gucci sunglasses, tights, boots, and a bow from Amazon.
When I shop vintage, I prefer to shop in person to get a feel for the fabric and fit of the clothing. One of my favorite places is called Red Owl Vintage in Kingston, NY, and D.Matt Smith also has an incredible collection at the Newburgh Emporium in Newburgh, NY. I’ve had success shopping on Depop and eBay, but I’ve started to use the Gem app, and it makes finding fantastic pieces easier.
At Pickwick, I bought a pair of Lucchese cowboy boots from Porter Vintage.”

“I’m wearing a thrifted skirt and thrifted vest, Maison Margiela shoes, and Vivienne Westwood bag. I bought the skirt from Humana in Berlin, and the vest is from the vintage store Sing Blackbird Vintage, also in Berlin.
At the show, I bought a gorgeous Vivienne Westwood dress from Shop Ome and a Roberto Cavalli set Lal Vintage.
I love shopping vintage firstly because of the obvious, which is that it’s sustainable. And of course, vintage/thrifted clothes have more of a soul and story to them than fast fashion ever could!”

“I’m wearing a dress I’ve had for 21 years; it was gifted to me by a friend when I won a writing award as a teen. The brand was a 90s Brazilian banger named Opera Rock. The pants are vintage from the 70s, upcycled by Gilberto França. The bag is Osklen’s fish leather clutch, sunnies are Loewe, and shoes are Collina Strada & Virón.
I travel a lot for work and like shopping vintage in the cities I visit, mostly from large vintage stores or from flea markets. I like to shop vintage because I like the hunt, the thrill, the uniqueness, the stories, and the quality. While traveling is even better because it’s all of that plus a souvenir and memory from the trip!”

“I’m wearing a purple cotton cropped tank top, vintage Imperial skirt from Thriftwares, Dolls Kill cowboy boots, and a pink Chanel bag.
Initially, thrifting and vintage shopping were something my mom and I did together. We’ve been going to A Current Affair since 2018, every May and October when it is in NY. Then, in 2020, I changed my shopping behavior due to the pandemic. I shopped the “live” Instagram sales, opting to support small businesses through the virtual current affair, and I realized the vintage clothes I found fit me better and were typically better quality than the fast fashion I had previously been shopping for. I also love to have unique pieces that aren’t something someone else has. I enjoy hearing about the history of vintage pieces, especially furniture.
I always wanted to go to Pickwick in LA, so when I heard they were coming to NY, I just knew my mom and I had to go support and visit. I loved the smaller space and the list of vendors. I would definitely visit again.”

“My outfit is mostly vintage and secondhand items that I’ve collected over the years. My top is a German dirndl blouse I found at Brick Lane Vintage Market in London. My corset is from an Austin-based brand called Psychic Outlaw, who use 100% rescued vintage fabric and quilts. My pleated navy blue skirt is thrifted, and I wish it had a tag because I wear it so often. I found my vintage Coach bag on Poshmark almost 10 years ago for a real bargain, and it’s my favorite bag ever. I can store two cameras, a journal, and a book in it! My Tony Lama cowboy boots are also from Poshmark.
I love experimenting with color and being playful with my outfits. I’m sentimental about every piece of clothing I have in my closet, so I make sure to style each item in a fun way, any chance I get!
My tip for online vintage shopping: the more specific search terms you use, the better!”

“I’m wearing an antique cotton and silk petticoat paired with two antique corset covers that I layered. I added my 70s Jean Muir laser-cut leather jacket to top it all off – this was one of my first big vintage purchases. I’m also wearing lots of jewelry, as usual, and my favorite 70s denim cap and 70s leather belt with a 30s handkerchief. Oh! And my boots are 70s Justin Roper boots, I rarely find them in my size. I just got them earlier this week.
Some of my favorite vintage stores: If you ever find yourself in Firenze, Italy, head to Albrici and Street Doing Vintage. Online, I’ve purchased a few things from Trailer Park Flamingo – I really love their selection and live for their weekly story sales!
Right now, I’m seeing many shoppers gravitate towards vintage lingerie – slip dresses and bed jackets, specifically. I think people always love a good, lived-in classic, and are always on the hunt for easy denim and tees.”

“I’m wearing a GI Tan flight jumpsuit with embellished Disney Cruella Crocs clogs and a Fluid Send cap, which I love.
The best thing about Pickwick Vintage is that all the vendors had dope vintage items.”

”I’m wearing a men’s 70s western denim jacket and matching vest from my friend X Vintage, a 50s button down, 90s silk polka dot tie, and a vintage leather Coach bag and espadrilles.
I’ve been selling vintage since I was 19, so I love shopping in person and on Instagram from my friends and other sellers. I also love going to flea markets and vintage markets around the city.
At Pickwick, I bought a lace-up top from Estella Vintage for the summer.”
