“There is something truly special about wearing a dress with history. A piece that no one else has and that carries a story of its own. For many, a wedding day is one of life’s most meaningful moments, and what better way to celebrate it than by giving a vintage gown a new life?

As a society, we value authenticity and individuality, and that is exactly what vintage bridal offers.

Another reason to consider vintage bridal is affordability. While I can’t speak for everyone in the industry, our collection is thoughtfully priced to make your dream dress attainable, often at a fraction of the cost of a new gown.

Lastly, choosing vintage is a sustainable choice. Instead of contributing to waste, we’re giving beautiful garments a second, third, and even fourth life. It’s a way to honor the past while creating a more conscious future.

I recommend beginning your vintage gown search with some online research. Browse platforms such as Pinterest to identify design elements that appeal to you, and note those that don’t. As you curate your list of preferences, explore both contemporary bridal collections and vintage styles to gain a sense of the silhouettes and shapes that resonate with you. Keep in mind that many modern silhouettes can be created using vintage dresses as a base, so it’s worth remaining open to reimagining and customizing pieces.

At our studio, we specialize in transforming vintage gowns by adjusting silhouettes, lengths, fabrics, and other design details to create a one-of-a-kind dress that perfectly reflects your vision.

We often see basque waist gowns appear on our brides’ mood boards, typically timeless and understated, though occasionally adorned with intricate beadwork or embroidery. Drop-waist silhouettes have also gained popularity; while not inherently vintage, they can be beautifully achieved through thoughtful design and tailoring.

One of the most requested references we receive is the iconic bias-cut Christian Dior gown, once carried by another bridal studio, a style that continues to inspire nearly every mood board we see. The 1920s-inspired, 1990s-era bias-cut gown remains a favorite choice, especially for rehearsal dinners and after-parties. Likewise, ethereal lace gowns (delicate, romantic, and effortlessly feminine) have become a defining trend.

Designers such as Danielle Frankel, Vivienne Westwood, Elie Saab, and Christian Dior are consistently featured in our clients’ inspiration boards. For vintage lovers, names like Vera Wang, Demetrios, Sue Wong, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Oleg Cassini, Monique Lhuillier, Reem Acra, John Galliano, and Anne Barge remain timeless favorites, many of which we proudly carry in our studio from time to time.

We have a deep appreciation for our true vintage brides. Those channeling the elegance of icons like Jackie Kennedy. They often seek refined 1960s column gowns, romantic 1950s lace “cupcake” dresses, fluid 1940s satin gowns, or authentically 1970s prairie-inspired styles. We also adore our alternative brides who embrace color for their celebration. Our studio features a curated collection of gowns in soft blushes, sunshine yellows, powder blues, and even dramatic blacks.

Today’s bridal trends are deeply shaped by social media influence. What celebrities and tastemakers wear often defines the aesthetic of the moment.

We’re currently seeing a beautiful resurgence of the ethereal “farmer’s daughter” look, with brides leaning into natural textures, effortless silhouettes, and romantic countryside charm.

One underrated vintage gown is a classic 1950s or 1960s high-neck midi dress – it epitomizes timeless elegance.

While contemporary trends often take precedence, brides who appreciate enduring style recognize the sophistication of these vintage silhouettes. (If you know, you know!) Likewise, classic 1960s gowns (often available in smaller sizes) remain understated yet remarkably refined. Though sometimes overlooked in favor of modern designs, these iconic pieces continue to embody grace, poise, and lasting appeal.

There are many notable trends in bridal fashion at the moment, yet an interesting pattern has emerged. Some of the most extravagant and intricately designed gowns from top designers can feel almost overwhelming, prompting brides to opt for simpler, more classic styles. While one might assume that “bigger and more dramatic” is always better, in practice, many brides choose elegance and timelessness over extravagance, a choice that ensures their gown remains beautiful and relevant for decades to come.

While bold, avant-garde designs are exciting in ready-to-wear fashion, most brides want a gown that they will look back on fondly even 30 years from now.

Classic, refined silhouettes offer that enduring appeal, combining sophistication with a sense of timeless beauty.

We also offer alteration services through Lovel Faye. This is an area that is particularly important to us for several reasons. Vintage dresses, especially those from the 1970s and earlier, were often made in much smaller sizes. Even a modern size 4 or 6 may not fit many true vintage pieces. With the expertise of Lovel Faye and her team, we offer solutions to adapt and adjust these dresses to meet the needs of today’s brides. This can include adding a corset back for coverage, redistributing fabric from the hem to the waist or bust, or fully reconstructing a gown to achieve the perfect modern fit.

Beyond fit, we collaborate with Lovel to redesign dresses for aesthetic purposes, offering modifications such as altering the length, removing or adding sleeves, layering sheer tulle for dimension, adding a bustle, incorporating a coordinating cape, or replacing a bodice with a corset to complement a tiered skirt. This approach reflects a broader trend toward customization, with brides increasingly interested in creating a gown that feels uniquely theirs.

By offering these services, we are able to make vintage gowns accessible to a wider range of brides, women who might otherwise have limited options for finding a truly special piece. In today’s bridal landscape, personalization is paramount, and we take pride in helping each bride transform a vintage gown into a dress that is distinctly her own.”
