Renoir and Matisse
Jerry Fels one of the most famous names in copper jewelry founded Renoir of California and Matisse LTd. Born in 1917 in Brooklyn, New York his parents encouraged his love of art. He joined the Art Students League and then the National Academy of Design in New York where he developed his talent of painting, sculpture and design.
Why copper? In 1930-1950 copper was an extremely popular metal among jewelers. Each product of Renoir-Matisse jewelry showed boundless enthusiasm and imagination of the master, his impeccable choice of shapes and colors, combined with gentleness and style. All his ideas he found in the abstract, nature and geometric figures – clear and poly-lines or floral motifs.
