This. Is. Gorgeous.
Absolutely wonderful full slip petticoat from what most likely is the late 1800s, early 1900s. It's in beautiful condition and appears to be made of batiste cotton; the fabric has a very lightweight/sheer quality to it.
Simple lace tatting frames the neckline, shoulders, and waist. The skirt is very full and has a double ruffle hem; the under ruffle is very simple, the top ruffle has a ruching effect, it is very full and gathered. The back of petticoat has a "training" effect. The back closures are eye hooks, of which all are in place.
This item was gently handwashed, lightly pressed, and very lightly steamed so that we could get a better idea of the overall condition. From what we could see, there is no staining, which is remarkable; two tiny, tiny, spots of discoloration were all we could find. There are about 6-8 pinholes throughout this piece; they are difficult to find and see, however, they do exist. The bottom hem does need to be retacked in about half a dozen places and seems to be a very easy mend/fix; we've shared photos to give an idea of what they look like. By all appearances, it seems this is where the petticoat was stepped on while being worn.
Approximate measurements as follows:
The waist is about 21" around. From armhole to armhole around, measures about 32".
In our humble opinion, this item is very wearable should one choose to do so! It would also be absolutely stunning displayed on a mannequin in a special place in the home as well. A guest bedroom perhaps, or the master bath or boudoir? The possibilities are endless ;-) xoxo
