Step In Chemise Slip Onesie Romper
with Winged scarab embroidery
by Jay Thorpe
Jay Thorpe was an exclusive boutique on 57th street in New York that opened in the 1920s. According to the Vintage Fashion Guild, they offered custom-made clothing from French and in-house designers. The store was on an equal footing with Henri Bendel and Hattie Carnegie in terms of quality but had a more eclectic image. Private fashion showings took place in the fourth-floor bistro, where customers could relax with refreshments while watching models stroll by in the latest fashions.
The Costume department at the Met in New York has 15 items by Jay Thorpe in their permanent collection.
