1960s mini skirt
Mini skirt embodies the radical change in fashion and culture that happened in the 60s. Young people did not want to dress up like their parents anymore and youth culture as we know was born.
It was only in 1966 and after, that skirts became real minis: ending above the knee. The mini skirt was not born overnight – its birth was a gradual process. There is also not one designer who invented the mini skirt. Both French André Courrèges and British Mary Quant designed short skirts in the mid-60s but it was Quant who popularized the mini skirt and made it a 60s fashion phenomenon.
