Gunne Sax
A 70s Gunne Sax dress is the archetype of a prairie dress. The San Francisco boutique Gunne Sax hired Jessica McClintock, a former teacher without any fashion education, as their designer in 1967. McClintock’s maxi dresses were bohemian and nostalgic in style, had often an empire waist, high collars, and long sleeves. The early Gunne Sax dresses from the late 60s had black labels and are therefore called Gunne Sax Black Label. Now the Gunne Sax dresses are coveted collectibles – especially the ones with a hood.
